Dresses are one of women's favorite pieces . They can be worn in summer with a pair of sandals, in spring with a jacket over them, or in winter with a pair of black tights. In addition to being suitable for all seasons, they can also be worn for all occasions: evenings, workdays, beach vacations, etc.
There are so many dress styles out there that it can be difficult to choose the right dress for your body shape. Don't panic, whether you're curvy , slim , tall , or petite , there's bound to be a dress that's perfect for you !
Stéphanie, our image consultant, gives you valuable advice on choosing the dress that suits your body shape.
A dress model for every body type
The different morphologies
The X or “hourglass” morphology
This silhouette is considered the most harmonious : you have aligned shoulders and hips and a rather defined waist.
When it comes to dresses, you're very lucky because you're free . There isn't one dress style that will suit you more than another: you can choose whatever you like! However, avoid buying a dress that's too big , it would be a shame to hide your beautiful figure.
The 8 or “hourglass” body shape
The figure 8 is similar to the X, except that figure 8 women have more shape.
You're very lucky because you can wear many different styles of dresses (v-neck dress, spaghetti strap dress, bodycon dress, wrap dress, skater dress, belted shirt dress, etc.). I recommend having a skater dress in your wardrobe. Its fitted top and loose bottom will hide your curves. However, avoid wearing a turtleneck dress.
The O or “oval” morphology
You are in O , if you have rounded shoulders, a generous chest , a slightly defined waist , a rounded stomach and fairly long hips .
A wide choice is available to you to highlight your beautiful curves: flowing dress, straight dress, trapeze dress or wrap dress...
The wrap dress is a must-have in your wardrobe. It hugs your entire body and highlights your beautiful bust.
As with the previous body shapes, there are some dresses to avoid. I recommend avoiding dresses with puffed sleeves, strapless dresses, and dresses that are too loose.
The A-shaped or “pyramid” morphology
The A-line silhouette is often envied by many women. What distinguishes an A-line body shape from another body shape is primarily the difference between the top and bottom sizes.
The trapeze dress turns out to be the dress that suits the A-line body shape. It is a model that draws the eye upwards .
I advise you to avoid dresses that are too tight and too wide . They don't really show off your figure and that's a shame...
The V-shaped morphology or “upside-down pyramid”
The V-shaped body shape is a silhouette full of assets . You generally have beautiful broad shoulders, a generous chest and lovely long legs.
Choose dresses with flared , straight , and patterned shapes to balance your overall silhouette. Don't be afraid to show off your beautiful legs: wear dresses cut above the knee.
However, if you have a crush on a dress with shoulder pads, I recommend going for a dress with thick straps or with sleeves that hang slightly over the shoulders.
The H-shaped morphology
Also called rectangle morphology , it is characterized by a very slightly defined waist and hips the same length as the shoulders.
The balloon-sleeved dress is a must-have in your wardrobe. Trendy and original, dare to wear this type of dress.
Avoid dresses that are too loose, too fitted, or too flared at the bottom. These types of dresses won't flatter your beautiful figure.
Complete your outfit with accessories
Don't hesitate to accessorize your dress with a pair of sunglasses , a belt to highlight your waist, a pair of sandals with thin straps, a scarf in your hair or costume jewelry .
Building your wardrobe is, above all, about having fun selecting comfortable and unique pieces!
