The sweater is a winter staple. Sometimes kitsch, other times super trendy, it comes in an infinite number of cuts, patterns, and colors to please as many people as possible. This year more than ever, the sweater is meant to be colorful and accessorized with brooches, scarves, and jewelry to give it that little something extra and make it super stylish.

How to choose the perfect sweater?

Which haircut should you choose for your body shape?

V-shaped body shape (broad shoulders, slim waist):

- Opt for crew or V-neck sweaters to balance the silhouette and add volume to the hips and waist.

- Avoid sweaters that are too tight around the shoulders, as well as shoulder pads, which should be forgotten. Opt for a slightly loose, or even scoop, cut for a casual look.

A-shaped body (narrow shoulders, wide hips):

- Choose sweaters that draw attention to the upper body, such as those with details at the collar, or even a turtleneck. Our Malika sweater will be perfect for your body shape!

- Forget sweaters that are too long and fall on the hips, opt for short cuts to restore balance between defined hips and shoulders. If you fall for long sweaters, you can make them bloused.

“O” morphology (balanced shoulders and hips, slightly defined waist):

- Opt for sweaters that accentuate the waist, such as fitted sweaters or those with a belt, you can even belt them yourself!

- Avoid sweaters with high or closed collars, which can make you look boxy and bulky. Instead, opt for sweaters with open or V-necks to draw attention to your neckline.

"H" body shape (shoulders and hips aligned, waist slightly defined):

- The goal here is to create volume, so have fun with well-structured sweaters or balloon cuts. Draw attention to the waist, shoulders, or hips, depending on your preference, with well-crafted cuts. As for the neckline, you can opt for vertiginous V-necks or square collars if you have a chest.

- We advise against long, straight sweaters, which will accentuate the elongated effect of your silhouette. Also, avoid sweaters with high collars, which will also create a linear effect.

“X” morphology (balanced shoulders and hips, defined waist):

- Opt for sweaters that highlight your slim waist, such as fitted or belted sweaters, or even asymmetrical or cutout sweaters. V-necks and boat necks will flatter your figure.

Which fabric for your body shape?

V-shaped morphology:

- Choose light, flowing fabrics that naturally follow the line of the body.

- Blends of cotton and cashmere or viscose will offer a nice balance between comfort and fluidity.

A-shaped morphology:

- Choose heavier fabrics to add structure to the upper body. You can also opt for rhinestone and jeweled sweaters.

- Merino wool or alpaca sweaters can bring warmth and elegance to your looks.

"O" morphology:

- Choose soft, stretchy fabrics that follow your curves without being too tight, rather than braided wools and visible knits.

- Blends of wool and silk (or viscose) can create a flattering effect.

"H" morphology:

- Say yes to textured wools, fiber blends, and visible seams. The same goes for adding flowers or topstitching patterns—we approve!

- Cashmere sweaters can add a touch of luxury without creating excessive bulk.

X-shaped morphology:

- Choose waist-flattering fabrics, such as jersey or other stretchy fabrics, if you want to draw attention to your waist.

- Very straight sweaters made from cable-knit wool should be avoided because they are less flattering for you.

What to wear with the sweater?

What to wear under your sweater?

Rather than wearing your sweater as is, with nothing underneath, adding an extra layer can help add a little something extra.

- With a shirt, for a more formal look, there's nothing like adding a shirt under your sweater. Whether it's white, blue, or colored, it will add a professional and elegant touch by letting it show through at the collar and sleeves.

- With a t-shirt, for a more casual but super trendy look, you can play with contrasts and textures by adding a crew-neck t-shirt under your favorite sweater. By leaving the collar exposed and over a cropped sweater, your look will be right on trend. Ideally, choose it in cotton or natural materials for its thermoregulating properties.

- With a blouse: If you want to give your sweater a more feminine and romantic look, wear it with a lace or embroidered blouse. Peter Pan collars and collars decorated with rhinestones and sequins will add a touch of elegance and refinement.

What to wear downstairs?

- With a skirt: The sweater-skirt combination will be ideal for combining elegance and comfort, whether with a pencil skirt, a pleated mini skirt, or a satin skirt. You can match the ensemble with a pair of tights that match the color of the sweater or neutral tights like black or brown. As for shoes, heeled boots like sneakers will be ideal. It's up to you to see what dimension you want to create with your outfit.

- With pants: The advantage of the sweater is that it goes with everything, especially with nice pants. Leather and faux leather pants, particularly trendy this year, will be perfect for creating a trendy look. As for jeans, opt for 7/8 or flared jeans, if you prefer fabrics, chino pants or carrot pants will be a more professional alternative.

- With shorts: Leather shorts are perfect for pairing with a sweater. Worn high-waisted, they will accentuate your waist and highlight your legs. If you prefer shorts made of thick fabrics and with patterns, which are also very trendy, you can create a more colorful and fun look.

How to accessorize a sweater?

With a pin

Brooches are super trendy this year, relaunched by major designers this fall. They're perfect for adding a little sparkle and pep to a simple sweater.

Whether it's a jewelry brooch with pearls or rhinestones, or more classic brooches with a logo or a message, they will suit all body types and with all sweaters. On the other hand, if you have a large chest, avoid positioning it at chest level, prefer the bottom of the sweater for example or the collar.

With a belt

To emphasize your waist, nothing beats a belt . If you have an H or X body shape and you want to reinforce this impression of a waist or create one, the belt is an excellent option.

On the other hand, if you have an O-shaped body, avoid wearing belts to avoid accentuating the volume around your stomach. Once again, wear the clothes you want to wear; these tips are simple recommendations that everyone is free to follow. ;)

If you're rather petite, you can choose thick belts with a thick buckle, but if you have a bit of curves, opt for thinner belts. When it comes to belt buckles, treat yourself; this is where you can be daring and be creative!

One last tip: if your sweater is a cool color, choose a silver or rose gold belt buckle . But if your sweater is warm-toned, opt for a yellow or gold buckle .

With scarves

- Silk squares and lightweight scarves: For a chic look, slipping into a silk square or lightweight scarf will have a double benefit: keeping you warm and enhancing your outfit. Choose colors that complement your skin tone and your color scheme. If you don't know your season yet, we'll give you some advice in our dedicated article.

- Wool or cashmere scarves: Wool or cashmere scarves will be thicker and therefore more covering, ideal for periods of extreme cold and for outdoor activities. If you choose a rather neutral sweater color, you can add color with scarves. Lilac, red, green or even electric blue are very trendy at the moment and will add pep to your outfit.

Whether with a square or a scarf, avoid wearing them with a turtleneck sweater, wear them instead with round necks or V-necks.

How to care for your sweaters?

Maintaining a beautiful knit isn't always easy, especially if these sweaters are made from delicate materials like cashmere, wool, or alpaca.

1 - Wash cold or by hand: To avoid damaging the knitwear, it is essential to wash it cold, if your machine allows it, or otherwise by hand in lukewarm water. Spin at a maximum of 400 to avoid damaging the cashmere, mohair or alpaca fibers. You can also use a special detergent for delicate materials to avoid any accidents.

2 - Dry flat: Hanging your sweaters on conventional clotheslines can cause them to lose their shape and thickness. Instead, dry them flat on a towel and turn the sweater over during the day so it dries on both sides.

3 - Use a pill remover: Your sweater may snag or develop pills over time. Rather than throwing it away because it's full of fabric balls, use a pill remover and remove them to give your favorite sweater or cardigan a new lease of life.
